Georgia is a country located at the crossroads of Western Asia and Eastern Europe. A former Soviet republic, Georgia is bounded to the west by the Black Sea, to the north by Russia, to the south by Turkey and Armenia, and to the east by Azerbaijan. Georgia covers an area of 69,700 square kilometers and has a population of about 3.7 million people. The country is an important transit route for oil and natural gas from the Caspian Sea region to Europe. Its capital and largest city is Tbilisi.
