Little Rock, the capital of Arkansas, holds the distinction of being the most populous city in the state. The United States Census Bureau confirmed that the city's population reached 204,405 individuals as of 2022. Its origins can be traced back to November 7, 1831, when it was incorporated as the county seat of Pulaski County, established on the southern bank of the Arkansas River, and strategically located near the state's geographic center.

The city derives its name from a rock formation situated along the river known as "Little Rock" or "Le Petit Rocher" in French, discovered by the explorer Jean-Baptiste Bénard de la Harpe in 1722. Little Rock replaced Arkansas Post as the capital of the Arkansas Territory in 1821.
